The commission opportunity has been snatched up so, though I'm still accepting commissions, regular prices apply from now on.

Onto brighter things, I have a lot of free time now, so I've gone back to checking people's art and answering to comments. I hope I can post new art soon.

Gone + Workshop

Journal Entry: Thu Apr 26, 2007, 12:45 AM
Ramblings

Hello guys! For those of you who've been wondering where I've been, sorry for this long absence. I've had a hell of a workload lately, which is good as I'll be getting extra cash that I desperately need (don't we all? =P). Also, my personal life is a bit problematic right now, so added to the little free time I've got, this means I've had to be less active on dA, which unfortunately also includes the workshop that I've been managing.

It's still going on, but on a bit of a hiatus; hopefully, next weekend I'll have another exercise ready, the promised brush tutorial. Meanwhile you can suggest any other themes as always. :)

For those whose comments, favs and watches I've neglected, I appreciate every kind of feedback I get, I can't thank you enough about how you make me feel and what an encouragement your support is.

Second theme: NOSES

We're going to use Noses

This is a collage of different pictures from *mizzd-stock, so remember to credit her when you submit your finished deviations.
All the images are of the same nose taken from different angles and poses, so we learn how angle can affect the shape of the nose. I think it's important that we pay special attention to how the nose interacts with the cheeks and the rest of the face (the little we see here =P).
So that's it, you can do one, all or wait for the next theme.

New section where I'll put questions people ask me, so if there's anything you'd like to know about how I paint just ask. :aww:

Q: Where do you start?
A: I used to do lineart on paper and then scan and colour on the computer, but now I do everything digitally. I start with a big brush to shape up the background and then I add any figures that are going to be in the picture, basic lines for anatomy and then fill it using a big brush again. Through trial and error I've found that it's very important to start with the background first to help you set perspective, palette and mood before starting with anything else.

Workshop + Commissions

Journal Entry: Thu Jan 25, 2007, 2:49 AM
Ramblings

I've finished all the commissioned work I was doing, which means I'm up for hire (doesn't that sound dirty? :giggle:). Do you want to have a portrait of you or your family with a fantasy twist? Would you like to put a face to your character? You only want a different landscape to hang on your wall? Note me and I'll make something special for you.

I'm almost done with this week's workshop exercise, how are the rest of you doing? :)
If you want to take part, check our
Terms.

On to other things, please welcome . Friend of mine and recent addition to the dAsphere. :D

Our first theme is METAL

We are going to work with this stock:
First we have to recreate it and last make a second piece using what we've learned about creating a metallic look. This second part is optional. I'll give a next one in two weeks (or not :XD:) but don't feel stressed, you can finish it when you want, I'll keep a list of all the themes, so you can do them in the order you prefer.

Remember to credit the stockers!

Terms & Rules for the Digipainting Workshop

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 16, 2007, 9:18 AM
Terms

The aim of this workshop isn't to create masterpieces, but to learn to make them (did that make sense? :D). We want to practise the basics to be ready for when we sit down to make our original work.

This is a collaborative effort. This means that I'm not teaching, we are learning, we are here to help each other and improve together. So, though I'll be the first to give out exercises, you are free to suggest themes and exercises for us. In fact, please do! :D

Reference, reference, reference. I think it's important to learn from real life before trying to recreate it, so we'll be relying on stock for our exercises. We will all use the same picture, so we can see how different people approach the same subject.

As I said this is a collaborative effort, so everything is subject to change. Don't like something? Say it! We'll find a way to suit us all.

Rules

Every exercise will be devoted to one specific theme, so we can work one issue at a time. There will be two parts for each theme, one obligatory, the second optional.

The first part will be to recreate a piece of stock as exactly as we can. The second will be to make a second piece without reference in which we will try what we've learned on the previous step.

For example: Imagine we have a theme that's "Metal" with a sword as reference, in the first part we will paint it focusing on what makes metal look like metal (shine, texture, colours). In the second part we will make something else, but putting to practice what we've learned on the previous piece, like a bracelet or an armour.

And last, it would be great if you could add a brief description about how you did the picture on the comment box when you submit your deviation, so we can all learn from it. Once submitted, note me and I'll add the thumbnail to the journal.

So that's it for now, tell me if you didn't understand something or if there's anything that you don't agree with so I can change it.

Also, I thought it would be nice to keep track of those who want to attend the workshop, so I created this little file boxes (which were quite painful to code, though they're quite simple :XD:) to store via thumbnail the work we've done. What do you think? You don't mind me using you as example, don't you Tilia? :D
